A project was signed for the implementation of the project "Biodiesel production from algae as a source of renewable energy" between the National Research Center and the Research, Development and Innovation (RDI) Program (a program of the Ministry of Scientific Research funded by the European Union) for a period of three years (2014-2017) and with funding of 520,000 Euros. Through this project, Biodiesel was produced on an experimental scale from Egyptian algae, given that Egypt enjoys favorable weather conditions for the growth of algae throughout the year. Pharmaceutical compounds were also obtained from the remaining residues after biodiesel production. This project contributes to solving the fuel problem in Egypt, whether needed for transportation or aircraft - a unit has been established an experimental scale to produce biodiesel - that can be replicated by investors in different places in Egypt. Five scientific bodies are participating with the National Research Center in the implementation of this project, three of which are local, the Faculty of Pharmacy, Cairo University, the International Trade and Marketing Company, and the El Sewedy Electric Company. From the Netherlands, the University of Wagnengin and the Institute of Food and Biofuels are participating
