Thetreatmentofmaleratswithstreptozotocin(STZ)toinducediabetesincreasedlevelsoftumornecrosisfactoralpha(TNF-α(,interlukine1β(IL-1β(,tumorgrowthfactorβ(TGF-β(,theapoptosisratesandthealterationsofthepro-apoptosis(eotaxin,caspase-1andcaspase-2)andinflammation(NF-κB1andAIF-1)relatedgenes.While,markedreductioninparaoxanase1(PON1)levelwasdetectedinSTZ-induceddiabeticrats.However,treatmentofSTZ-exposedratswithredandwhiteberryextractsexhibitednoticeableameliorationsinTNF-α,IL-1β,TGFβlevelsandPON1activityaswellaslowapoptosisratesanddecreasedthealterationofthepro-apoptosisandinflammatoryrelatedgenesinducedbySTZinmalerats.Berryextractsexhibitedattenuationinantioxidantstatus,suppressedinflammatorycytokines,apoptosisandthealterationsintheapoptosisandinflammatoryrelatedgenesinducedbySTZin male rats.
