The objective is to produce and apply rice straw and date palm residues pulps in paperboard and carton products.
Rice straw and date palm residues pulps were produced at the pilot scale level in collaboration with Rakta Company for Paper in Alexandria, and was characterized using different standard methods and instruments to ensure successful isolation of the pulp such as determining its main chemical composition (cellulose, hemicelluloses, ash content, degree of polymerization, lignin content), microscopic characterization of the fibers, and mechanical properties of paper sheets made from the pulp.
The produced pulp was used for making carton products in collaboration with Baddar Company for Carton at the pilot scale level. The carton products were characterized regarding their mechanical properties as well as physical properties to ensure its suitability in carton products manufacturing.
