Production of pure cellulose pulp using methods applicable at the industrial scale from the industrially available paper-grade pulp manufactured by Qena Company.
Using of the produced pure cellulose pulp for the industrial production of nitrocellulose and other industrial cellulose derivatives that need pure cellulose.
The properties of the prepared cellulose pulp were fully complied with the standards used at Military Factory 18, and also comparable to the imported ones.
Applications in production of nitrocellulose and other cellulose derivatives such as carboxymethyl cellulose, methyl cellulose….etc.
The main objective is to make use of local agricultural residues from the sugar industries (bagasse) to produce cellulose derivatives that are used as food stabilizers at the industrial level. One of these products is carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC, known as E460 additive in food industry), which finds many applications in food and pharmaceutical industries.
CMC was comprehensively characterized regarding the standard requirements using several chemicals and spectroscopic analyses tools to proof the successful preparation of the targeted product. Specifically, the prepared CMC was characterized using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), 13C nuclear magnetic resonance (13C NMR), determination degree of substitution (DS), degree of purity, viscosity, and residual heavy metals.
CMC was successfully tested as a thickener in juice products.
Applications in different food products (juice, milk, meat, bakery)
